A Day Like Any Other
 Back to  Stories

On October 14, 2000 Jesse spent the day with me his Dad. It was an ordinary day but it wasn't ordinary. Sometimes these kind of days are the best . It was good just spending time with him . He had just moved in with me and we had some time to talk . Jesse had reached a crossroad in his life and he was preparing to make many of life's very important decisions .
We got up early that day and drove to Grandmas house in San Jose . We spent the day working on the house . It had just been sold and needed a couple things done to it . I strapped the water heater and did a couple things . Jesse installed smoke detecters and repaired screens . His cousin Paul was there . Paul had decided to '' spend the day with Jesse .'' (Good Call) We ate lunch, Chinese Food . Paul and Jesse did their usual wrestling and foolin around . Jesse was replacing the screen on the front door he struggled with it . It wasn't perfect so he drove to the hardware store and bought more screen . He got it right so we finished up and got ready to leave . Jesse got his last hugs and kisses from Grandma said his last goodbye to Paul and we headed for Manteca .
On the way home we listened to Eric Clapton , Lynyrd Skynyrd and talked about the music . We talked about politics and God . I asked him if he was saved . He said  YES . We talked about his friends , he was concerned that several of them might not be saved .
We arrived in Manteca and were looking for his sister. She had gone to Tower Park . Jesse said , " What is she doing there ?  Go get her Dad ! " He was like Marissa's second Dad . I asked him what his plans were for the night . He said " Im going to Tower Park tonight  to watch some bands play." So I said " Ill see you Jess." He said " Ill see you Dad , I might not come home tonight , I might spend the night with friends ." So I walked out the door to pick up Marissa . That was it.  I didn't see him again until the funeral home .
Jesse died  Oct 15, 2000 at 3:45 AM in a head on car crash on Highway 12 , aprox. 400 feet west of Flag City Blvd. in Lodi Ca. Two other lives were lost that morning Crystal Pepin and Sara Sutton . Tiffany Adams the only survivor of the crash was in the back seat of Jesse's car . She suffered multiple injuries and lost the use of her legs .  My deepest sympathy goes out to the parents and loved ones of these beautiful young people . This tragedy should never be repeated . I hope that all people who read this will learn that drinking and driving is wrong . The lives that were lost and the Many changed forever were worth more than a couple of drinks and a good? time . All who love Jesse will miss him . Spending the day with him was and is a great comfort to me .

I ask people who were with Jesse or seen him that night to e-mail Me with any stories .

This is my favorite quote from the funeral book (thanksBill)

That says it all!
